It sits in the historic centre of the city at Corte San Lorenzo, 9, a short walk from Piazza Cittadella<\/strong>, where a bronze statue of Puccini, sculpted by Vito Tongiani in 1994, marks the entrance to the surrounding square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Puccini family had been living in this building since 1815, and Giacomo himself remained here until 1880, when he left for Milan to complete his studies at the Conservatorio. After he died in 1924, his heirs donated the property to the Municipality of Lucca. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was converted into a museum in 1979 and underwent significant restoration in the early 2000s to bring it to its current condition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apartment is preserved to reflect how it looked during Giacomo’s childhood and early youth. The original furnishings are still in place. Puccini began his formal musical education here, studying with his uncle Fortunato Magi<\/em> before eventually attending the Istituto Musicale Pacini in Lucca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
