If you are driving, the cave is accessible from several motorways including A1, A11, A12, and A15. <a href=\"https:\/\/grottadelvento.com\/where\/\">From Lucca<\/a>, it\u2019s about a 50 km drive taking approximately 1 to 1.5 hours and is a straightforward journey, just follow the signs for <strong>Castelnuovo Garfagnana<\/strong> and then to <strong>Gallicano<\/strong> where you will see clear signage to guide you to the <strong>Grotta del Vento<\/strong>.<\/p><p>If you are taking public transport, buses run from nearby towns, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.at-bus.it\/en\/linee-e-orari\/lucca-extraurbano-e77\">schedules<\/a> varying by the season. There are many intricate rock formations and narrow passageways throughout the cave&#8217;s system. It is a complex maze of tunnels and was naturally formed over thousands of years of erosion and the limestone dissolving and forming by water.<\/p><p>The cave&#8217;s temperature is usually around <strong>+10,7\u00b0 C<\/strong> throughout the year on average as there is a constant air current running through the cave system with openings on both ends. What makes this a unique system, however, is that one end of the cave is at 642 metres above sea level &#8211; this is the entrance to the Grotta del Vento &#8211; and the other end is at 1,400 metres! This incline and the specific location of the openings along the mountain are what create the breeze and regulate the temperatures.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section months, when it is very hot outside, the cave offers a cool escape from the heat, since the hot air is pushed downwards to the lower entrance, while in the winter, the cave is much warmer inside as the hot air rises to the higher elevation, warming up the cave\u2019s You will see many limestone formations and the famous C<\/span><em style=\"background-color: transparent;\">rystal Lake<\/em><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">. This tour is the flattest and is most suitable for families with younger children.<\/span><\/p><p><strong>Itinerary 2<\/strong>: Is 2 hours long and about 1,500 m. in length. One of the larger descents within the cave is found on this tour route, and you will also walk through the <em>Hall of Voices<\/em>. This itinerary is suitable for children 6 years and older but not recommended for those with disabilities or vertigo.<\/p><p><strong>Itinerary 3<\/strong>: the final guided tour option is 3 hours and 2,200 m. long. You will climb a 90-metre shaft straight up, go through an underground canyon and cross the <em>Tunnel of Wonders<\/em>. You will also see all the other key points of interest that are in itineraries 1 and 2.
