But as well as all the more beaten tracks, there are a host of quieter corners to discover, with some fabulous places to stay that are the perfect match for the beauty of the surroundings.

Tuscany Holidays- Taking it in on the Tuscan trail

Orentano

The tiny village of Orentano is an absolute country delight, and the perfect destination for getting away from it all, punching way above its weight with folk festivals, incredible restaurants and breathtaking countryside. Plus its proximity to some of Tuscany’s most beautiful and iconic places make it the ideal springboard for any holidays in Tuscany adventure.

The capital of the region, cradle of the Renaissance and home of some of the world’s most celebrated art and architecture, Florence, is only 47 km away.  Botticelli’s ‘Venus’ and Michelangelo’s ‘David’ live here, which tells you all you need to know about how high the cultural bar is set.

Once you’ve done marveling at the sights, you will of course want to enjoy some of its celebrated cuisine: maybe a Bistecca alla Fiorentina to start off with, then some mouth-watering pasta followed by gelato? And if you fancy a change of scenery, the beautiful beaches of Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore and Forte dei Marmi are about forty minutes away by car.

orentano

For a stay in Orentano, Villa Otto is the ideal accommodation. This luxury, fully-equipped farmhouse is light, spacious, welcoming and comfortable, and perfect for family or group, with a pool for fun in the sun or some serious relaxation. Simply stunning, specially for holidays in Tuscany.

Pescia

This charming town, also known as ‘The City of Flowers’ is located on the banks of the River Pescia, near the historical border that divided the Republics of Florence and Lucca. Deeply medieval in character, there is an embarrassment of cultural delights to take in, including the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Duomo di Pescia, which dates back to the 5th or 6th centuries and holds artistic treasures like Nativity of the Virgin by Giuseppe Bottani, kept in the Forti Chapel.

Pescia Tuscany

For flower loving visitors, a trip to the Citrus Garden in Castellare di Pescia, a botanical garden that is home to more than 200 varieties of citrus fruits from all over the world is a must. There are also plenty of cultural events, including the Palio degli Arcieri archery festival held on the 1st September every year in honor of the patron Santa Dorotea, filling the streets with art, food, music and fun. And of course, the quality of the local produce here gives you plenty to write home about. Highlights for this unique place to enjoy holidays in Tuscany include the incredible local olive oil and selection of wines, or if you’ve got a sweet tooth (or not!) the neccio di Pescia Tuscan crêpe, filled with chestnut and ricotta – just wow!

Cottage Nanni is the pad par excellence for any stay in Pescia. This fabulous farmhouse is just a short walk from the village, and the air is filled with the scent of the cypress and olive trees growing within the grounds. Sumptuously decorated, and with a private pool and air conditioning, this is the perfect choice for a romantic getaway.

Capannori

The ‘town of Camellias’, Capannori, is just a stone’s throw from the beautiful city of Lucca, and this whole area of Tuscany is replete with elegant Renaissance architecture, medieval castles and towers, and parish churches with incredible ancient artifacts. The wider countryside is renowned for the beauty of its incredible architecture, including the Nottolini Aqueduct, a neoclassical nod to its Roman ancestors. The Parco Villa Reale, or Villa Marlia can also be found here, renowned for its spectacular gardens, said to be among the most beautiful in the whole of Italy.

This being Tuscany, any visitors here are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out and sampling the local delicacies. Extra Virgin Lucca DOP is produced here, plus eight varieties of Colline Lucchesi DOC wine – cheers!

Delicious country fare is the staple of the local cuisine, like the vegetable farinata soup, cannellini bean stews and incredible local cheeses and honey.

The exquisite Villa Valgiano, an absolutely stunning villa in Capannori is the perfect luxury location for that special get-together. With a heated swimming pool, outdoor pool and sauna, plus exquisite living spaces and breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and villages. With 12 bedrooms, gardens to die for, it’s even just a short stroll from the award-winning Tenuta di Valgiano organic winery.
