Giovanni Boldini Exhibition

Boldini exhibition in Lucca

An exhibition featuring over 100 works that trace the artistic evolution of Giovanni Boldini, celebrating his lifelong exploration of beauty—particularly feminine beauty—through an idealised sense of grace and a profound psychological insight.

The exhibition unfolds chronologically, presenting:

  • Early interior scenes from the Florentine period influenced by the Macchiaioli (1864–1870)
  • Brilliant and finely detailed works from the early Paris years (Goupil period, 1871–1878)
  • Iconic, life-size portraits of the celebrated “divine” women, emblematic of Boldini’s mature style (1879–1891)
  • The fluid, dynamic compositions of the fin de siècle period (1892–1924), characterised by elongated silhouettes and rapid, expressive brushstrokes

Urban views, lively street scenes and sensual female portraits are displayed within the atmospheric setting of the Cavallerizza, enhanced by a scenographic installation that evokes the opulent and mysterious spirit of the era.

The exhibition is held under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Region of Tuscany and the Municipality of Lucca, with exceptional loans from major public and private collections, including the Uffizi Galleries and the Museo Giovanni Boldini in Ferrara.
